And a Cold, Hard Rain doth Fall

We've been getting heavy rainfall every 3-4 days since August. Atlanta and the surrounding areas flooded way back in September and everywhere the trees are giving up their toeholds in the soil, unable to remain root bound in the saturated soil. Today, again, we're getting up to 2 inches of rain. There's a wind advisory and flood watches and warnings everywhere. It's 34 degrees (I know, that's not cold to most of you) and the rain is driving at an angle.

Those of you in the Midwest and Northeast have it so much worse since this rain for us is ice and snow for you. I couldn't imagine. Then there's Toni who thinks 0 degrees is balmy. Maybe my rain isn't so bad after all.

  1. I can relate...we lost our beautiful 25 ft (or so) Blue Spruce in February in a wind storm a week after the ice storm! Sad, now we have a ton of Christmas lights we bought for it last year with no place to put them!

  2. It's freezing here, going to 20f tonight. Very little rain or snow still this season though, I think our area is in a bubble. I am ready for winter to be over and it doesn't even start until Dec 21.

I will have to try one of those conserves, they sound excellent! I will have to reframe for a while though as the pantry is full. Canning is addictive.

  3. Cold wind driven heavy rainfall is just as tough to cope with as cold and snow. We had a round of it too this past week. I hope your trees stay put in the wind and cling to their soil despite the saturated conditions.

  4. Wasn't that rain nasty? It's wasn't terrible over on my side of town but my backyard had some pools of water here and there. I just wish I had a rain barrel constructed. All of this rain would have been harvested and stored for the garden. I must remember that in the New Year.

  5. It sounds plenty cold and nasty to me. Huddle up and cross fingers for your trees.

  6. After shoveling about 1500 sq ft of snow from the driveway and sidewalks, I have to agree that rain is better than snow. (can not think of any symbols for tired) John

  7. Love your blog! It's nice to see someone doing so well with fruits and vegetables. I envy your children/students. What an education they're getting!
