The Veggie Stand Is Where It's At!

Before you jump on it, yes, it killed me to end the subject with a preposition, but it didn't sound as splendid otherwise.

The boy's been begging me to let him set up a lemonade stand. He just flat wore me down, and since the weather had actually given us a break in the heat for today and I didn't have any lemonade, I sent the boy and girl outside with a box of veggies.
They made $6.30 in about two hours of sitting outside, eating dinner and marching around in circles. They would whoop and holler like crazies when they got a nickle or a dime and were so completely giddy that it made all of their "customers" laugh and smile along with them. The boy yelled, "This is AWESOME!" and the girl chimed in "Rock ON" as she flashed her devil horns and gave her best sneer. One woman and I were talking about the neighborhood when the girl walks up to her and says, "Here, take your tomato. You need to give me your money now." I was mortified, but the woman, who actually works for our vet's office, played right along. I was so happy for the kids and so grateful to the neighbors for stopping by. I need to remember to stop when I see kids selling lemonade or the like at the road side. It's such a simple thing and makes kids so happy.
The morning comes early, sweet gardening dreams.

  1. I love it, good for them and what a fine bundle of produce they had to sell. Nice tomatoes.:)

  2. These days, I'm about ready to pay my kids NOT to have a lemonade stand! :) Sounds like they had a blast. THough I don't like sitting out there with my kids, I do LOVE lemonade stands and will make a point to turn around to buy a cup of the warm usually horrible stuff!

  3. No way! I just think about the salsa you could make from those tomatoes. You must be covered up with veggies right now!

  4. Would you like to ship those kids up here to me in another month or so? I'll set them up in the driveway, with boxes and boxes (and boxes and boxes) of tomatoes. We could make a fortune!

  5. EG, I've already made two batches of salsa, one batch of sauce and a batch of ketchup. No more canning tomatoes for me this year.

Granny, I'll send them along with a jar of the nasty green salsa.

You're right Wendy, you never know what you're really getting, but it makes the kids happy, doesn't it.

    THanks, Mr. H!

  6. I love it! I have a feeling I would get along with the girl well, it's pretty cut and dried to me, too LOL!! Around here the city wrath would rain down, last year they decided you needed a "business permit" for a lemonade stand type thing, and it was pretty funny since the mom involved was a pretty Type A gal and jumped on the evening news with her little kids and a reported with a video camera recording her "customers" smiles on their way home from work.... the city succeeded in looking like the complete backwards@ss entity it is LOL! Way to go, kids!

  7. This is awesome! I think I'd be more likely to stop at a kids' veggie stand than a lemonade stand any day!

The kids I nanny for helped their neighbors with a lemonade stand yesterday, and they made a ridiculous fortune! One man only had a twenty, and they only had sixteen dollars to give him in change. He was fine with it, and they got $4 for a glass of lemonade!
