Crisis Averted

Since potting up, my tomatoes have all been outside braving the elements. It's only gotten down to the 40's at night, so I figured it wasn't so bad, but I dropped the ball. Last night it was 38. Major tomato faux pas. I came home today to find some of them just completely wilted. they were gone. Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone. Gonner that in Carol Burnett's Gone With the Wind sketch. (Gone's a funny word when viewed in seclusion, isn't it?) I gave them some water on the off chance they'd bounce back. Perhaps they were just thirsty...perhaps they just needed love...

I just went back to check on them and I found myself singing this song. I don't think I've heard it since I was a kid, but you can seem to find anything on youtube!!

I'm stoked.

The morning comes early. Sweet gardening dreams.

  1. Oh Ribbit, I hope you haven't lost them. As for your lettuce, ours will keep for several weeks in a plastic bag tied shut in the refrigerator.
Hope you are having a great day.

Di! I have your comment on my email at home, but blogger gives me some horrid error code when I try to accept it. You wrote:

I haven't lost them! I'm very excited to say they're alive and that's no jive!

  4. Blogger is losing my comments today, too. Second time this week.

Yay! You probably shocked them into being stronger, healthier plants. If they lived through Ribbit's faux pas, they can live through anything! They are survivors!!!

Now, is there hope for my poor droopy lettuces?

The only hope I gave these toms were a drink of water. A girlfriend of mine tried beer and it worked for her. I don't know if there's any truth to that, but you'd have 11 more you could drink yourself if it fails. :)

  6. Cute video! That was a close call...glad your tomatoes survived! Our temps have been in the 40s overnight as well and the propane tank ran out in our greenhouse the other night when it got close to mid 30s....thankfully we caught it in time.

  7. The hardening off process is always the trickiest part, in my opinion.

  9. Hooray for you and your tomatoes. I keep telling mine that they are very very hardy, and will LOVE being outside, never mind the forecast hail.

I'm glad your tomatoes are ok. It's amazing what we feel for our little plants huh.
