No kidding. I was just playing with our squashes today, peeking for flowers and baby squashes, remembering the bees rolling around drunkenly in them last year.
I know what you mean. Missing the bee in my picture but if one can't find these two flowers I would be in trouble. http://tendhergarden.blogspot.com/2010/06/finally-in-bed-together.html
I've always done great with squash plants. Zucc and Yellow Squash have always done so well in my garden. This year - nada. Dead. Hmph. So it was nice to see your pretty flower...
It's definitely reassuring isn't it? Hopefully the bees (like the pests) will be able to adapt to all of the pesticides and pollutants we put on this earth. It would be a sad state of affairs if they can't.
I'm a wife, teacher and mom of two who came by gardening accidentally in order to appease a fussy child in a big-box hardware store. He saw yellow pear tomatoes (his favorite color) and we became container gardeners.
As it goes with anything involving children, my interest far outlasted his and now we have a square foot garden in our corner yard.
As long as we can battle the bugs and keep the dog from the soil, we might have some fun.
Harvest:
2009 TOTAL ---- 136 lbs
2010 TOTAL ---- I stink. I gave up weighing.
===============================

Teeninesy radish bit. He chewed it, spit it out and then rinsed his mouth with water. It still counts.

The girl has eaten:
carrot
Cantaloupe - smelled, licked, sucked on a slice, but ingestion is doubtful.

ReplyDeleteI agree! Last year I rarely got up early enough to catch the flowers while they were open, but one time I did and it was great.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how they can make our heart flutter with excitement!
