The weather is just beautiful and herbs, tomatoes and such summer plants are calling my name. The lows for the long range forecast are far above frost levels and I'm chomping at the bit to get the plants in the ground,
but
technically our last frost free date isn't until April. The rest of March looks good. Could I weather 15 days of April? I did last year and got such a wonderful head start. Dare I try again?

I'm too scared to put anything into the ground until Mid-April. We've been known to get snow in late March.
ReplyDeleteI planted the seed vegetables here in GA but I am not putting the tomatoes and peppers out until it is 70-80 during the day consistantly--not next week unfortunately because they are only calling for 60's.
ReplyDeleteMeemsnyc, so do we...sometimes.
ReplyDeleteBecky, I'm in GA also. I can hold off on the tomatoes, but it's those herbs that are really calling my name.
If the extended forecast is frost-free for the foreseeable future, do it! You can always start some more seeds as back-ups if anything happens, but I think you'll be fine. At this stage of winter, even just an old blanket thrown quickly over seedlings can protect them from the elements. Grow on!
ReplyDeleteYou are such an enabler, CM!
ReplyDeleteThinking I may do a few...not to much...just enough to feel like I've dug in the dirt.
Try it, do you have stuff to cover with in case of frost?
ReplyDeleteNo, Kelly, not really, but I can always rig something up. I may try some things but leave the basil until later...
ReplyDeleteYou've got the bug!! :) Good luck with whatever you do! I was itching to plant yesterday, and threw some peas in the ground. My peppers and tomatoes are a LONG way off! Have you gotten a chance to harden them off yet?
ReplyDeleteI always start the tomatoes etc outside so they harden as they go, I suppose. If it gets cold enough, I'll just bring them inside. The herbs I'll have to purchase as transplants.
ReplyDeleteLOL I've been entertaining the same ideas, do I dare? :)
