One Of These Things Is Not Like The Other

I pulled one of those bean plants from yesterday's post and the roots seemed fine, so I'm back to square one. My game plan now is to just prune off the affected leaves and go with the flow. The pole beans are about to start vining. I can't wait!

The potatoes are flowering also. What cute things they are. I suppose I now need to read up on potato harvesting. I have no idea when to do it.

Speaking of flowering, I posted a few days ago about Dan's beautiful Cherokee Purple tomato seeds he sent. I started them and a few others and it looks like I made a mistake because if both of these plants are supposed to be Cherokee Purple...and they are by the way I labeled them....one of these things is not like the other.....

Looks like I've got a mystery on my hands. I'm thinking the second is the Cherokee Purple, so the first could be either a Black Cherry or a Beefsteak. Looks like I've got a mystery on my hands!
The morning comes early. Sweet gardening dreams.

  1. It's probably a Cherokee Purple. I saw the same thing on a tomato forum the other day, and one of those named was a CP. They basically said it was common to have that type of blossom on these large varieties.

  2. I'm gong to guess the second. But then again beefsteak tomatoes can put out these mega blooms or double blooms usually for their first flowers, but they don't always. So it is possible for the flowers to look different even on the same variety of plant. Of course if they are all different, then you probably got them mixed up or the seed got cross pollinated.

  3. That's...odd. Looks more like a sunflower crossed with a tomato. Hopefully it means you'll get a great big tomato...

Regarding your aphids, here's a link with a list of a bunch of organic recipes:

Hopefully one of these will work for you.

  4. So wait, AG and Daphne...One tomato plant can have two different types of blooms?

sb158, you're a wealth of knowledge! Thank you for sharing all of your links!

  7. They could be the same plant with different blooms. I get a few of these blooms every year, I think they call them super blooms or somethin. If it sets a fruit it will be a lobed monster!
