Yes, I'm "that" Southerner

Recently, we down here in GA had an "Ice Event." Nothing to write home about, but the roads did stay icy for a few days and school was canceled for one. This, in GA counts as a catastrophe. Today we had our second such Winter event. It's snowing, and you know what that means. All of the Southerners run around like Chicken Little screaming that the sky is falling. Then, they descend on the grocer for white bread and milk.

I've joked lovingly about these people before post 1 / post 2. At least the news media got it right this time. It snowed AND they interviewed people standing in lines at the package store instead of the grocer.

Then I come home to realize this:
And, had to turn around to go get this:
Yup. I'm one of "them." I did make sure to tell everyone who looked at me and snickered that it was milk day anyway and it wasn't just the snow, I would have been here regardless and they knew they were there panicking just as I was, because really, did they seriously need those two bags of chips and those ho-hos if it wasn't going to snow?

I think not.

It is rather pretty, isn't it,

and it's still coming down.

The morning comes early, and this one will be a cold one. Sweet gardening dreams.

  2. Even in the cold, white north, we still run out for supplies when they predict a snowstorm.

  3. Lol, I made sure to stock up on beer and tequila before our last 'storm' (didn't quite turn out to be), it's innate I guess. :)

  4. : ) with powdered or condensed milk (or heck, even soybeans) in the house, you could have stayed home and built a snowman.

    It is quite pretty, though.

  5. LOL! You made me laugh in rueful recognition. Someone in our household was sent to the store early this morning for canned biscuit dough and a chicken, and that's how we found out it was supposed to snow. We don't have a t.v., but the chaos at the grocery store spoke quite eloquently.

Hope you're enjoying the pretty white stuff as we are here in SC. :)

  6. Our "light dusting to a half inch accumulation" has turned into 4+ inches and it's still coming down. It's beautiful, but I'm eternally grateful it's happened on a weekend.

  7. Strangely enough, we didn't get even 1 little snowflake. That is so messed up....

  8. 4+ inches, that's alot of snow for your area! You have about as much snow on the ground as we currently have.

  9. I have always wondered why people crave French Toast whenever there is a weather event predicted - snow, hurricane, whatever. There is always a run on the bread, milk, & eggs. Maybe French Toast is a comfort food. : )

  11. Seriously, EG! You guys were covered on the radar. I guess there just wasn't enough humidity.

KM, you guys were supposed to get hit worse than us. How much do you have?

Dan, it was absurd. It still is. This was far beyond what they were predicting.

Anglea, I never made the conection to FT. MMMMM...FT does sound good for a snowed in morning. Actually, it sounds better for a surprise lunch for the kids!

  13. I too, had to run out for milk the day of our last storm, lucky for me it was during the storm so I had the store to myself!
