Quien es mas Macho?

Ribbit's zucchini...or.....Loyd Bridges?

Actually, my money's on the two year old, peanut butter face and hands not withstanding, who grabbed it as I walked in the door proclaiming it was her baby and promptly began rocking and singing to it.

Take it away from her. I double dog dare you.

After she pushed it around in her doll stroller, fed it a bottle, gave it a bath and got bored with it, I got it back; it weighed in at 1 lb 12oz, a little over a foot long, and 10 inches around. It just opened yesterday and went berserk with growth over 24 hours. This is the same plant that other monster came from and it's got another waiting to be picked tomorrow. It's probably normal for you who grow zucchini on a regular basis and you're most likely rolling your eyes at me now. That's okay. This sucker can double as a bat! HA!

I love it! Lots of frozen zucchini for me. Woohoo!

The morning comes early. Sweet monstrous zucchini dreams.

  1. Yours grows overnight? I've had three that have been taunting me for several days, and not grown more than an inch. I think they were pollinated, they look quite normal.

My pumpkin, on the other hand, grows while we're watching it. Yes it does....just ask Mr. H.

    The girl is precious.

  2. That is huge! Lots of zucchini bread & scones can be made from that. I have yet to harvest any zucchini, last year I planted them in my seedy compost and ended up with pumpkins. This year I have zucchinis for sure through so I will wait for my first monster.

  3. Overnight doesn't even cut it. You're right. It's hourly on the zucchini. The squash, on the other hand, is very slow and not doing much of anything. Look at my weights. The zucchini and squash were planted at the same time. The zucchini's out pacing it by 14 lbs!

  4. Dan, it's jut this one crazy plant. It's the same one I keep cutting monsters off of that weigh over a pound each BEFORE they've blossomed. It's strange, but fun to watch. We love zucchini bread, but never have tried scones! Have a good recipe?

  5. Zucchini are such a rewarding plant to grow. Squash in general are miraculous in their growth as far as I am concerned, but zucchini are such prolific producers and are guaranteed to provide something for the table whenever needed - all summer long.

  6. I've never had a zucchini that grew THAT fast!! It's a pretty cheap baby-doll though and at least it has another use when she tires of it!

  7. LOL - that is cute! I end up harvesting mine early trying to get them before the raccoons did.

  8. Isn't it neat to see the mothering instinct coming out in your little girls? My 15-month-old daughter is already a little worry wort over my 5-week-old son. She brings him his pacifier and runs into the room to see what's wrong when he's crying. It's so cute. Great looking zucchini. My neighbor brought one to me about that size that he said grew up in a couple days. I guess it's just a fast-growing plant!

  9. We'll see if you're still loving it in a few weeks. You'll be doing drive by's with zuchinni, putting them in the library drop box, leaving em at the bus stop.....
    Just you wait and see!!!
    Bwah-haha

  10. kitsapfg, you're right. It's been a fun plant to grow. I just have to watch where I put it since it grows so huge it shades everything else out.

  11. Amy, I should be grateful while I can be that she's still entertained by zucchini-dolls, you're right. Before long, it will be lipsticks, Barbies, and then the family car.

  12. Crystabel, thank goodness the squirrels are leaving mine alone for now. The birds, however, seem to like my tomato bushes, but haven't taken anything yet, knock on wood.

  13. Hi Cameron! Thanks for stopping by!! We're trying to love the way our 2 and 5 yr olds play together while we can because we know it won't last. It is cute the way she checks up on her older brother, asks if he's okay, pats him on the back, backs up, issues a battle cry, and flings herself at him only to do it all over again.

WOW! Your two are close together! It may be hard now, but it will be easier in the long run, I bet.

  14. Sue, the zucchini's staying with me. I can freeze that stuff and hoard it. It's the cucumbers that were driving me nuts before I could can them. They've slowed down quite a bit, however.

  15. Holy smokes! Buy that zucchini a stroller and knit it a blanket - it's a real beaut!

And don't worry Ribbit - you'll ALWAYS impress me with any large garden growth! I'm easily impressed by anything edible from the garden!

  16. I don't have a zucchini scone recipe unfortunately but I do recall making them in grade 6 home ec class. They were really good, they had cinnamon and brown sugar in them. I will look for a recipe and send it along once I find one.
